Matt Hartwell has been a member of the SCV visual staff since 2010 and has served as the Visual Caption Manager since 2017. His DCI experience started with Capital Regiment in 2004 and finished with The Cavaliers from 2005-2008. Matt is currently the visual designer for the 2018 DCI open class champions, Vanguard Cadets. For WGI Percussion, Matt has worked with George Mason University Indoor Drumline (2010-2013), SCV Winter Percussion (2014-2016) and is currently the Visual Caption Head and Staff Coordinator at Pulse Percussion.
In 2007 Matt had the honor to perform with and teach the Aimachi Marching Band from Nagoya, Japan. In 2010, he had the extreme honor of designing a production for His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said's Royal Guard of Oman Marching Band. He was also hand-selected to design the program for His Majesty's 40th year in Power celebration and a private dinner performance for His Majesty and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England. Beginning in 2017, Matt has taught Nada Syiar Daar El-Qolam Drum Corps based out of Tangerang, Indonesia.
Matt is currently a full time visual designer, adjudicator, and clinician for marching bands and indoor drumlines. He resides in Long Beach, CA and is originally from Salem, VA
