Often, the secret to a well coordinated audio-visual package lies in simplicity; the power of seeing what you hear. The concept of a ripple effect does just that. Contemporary music, electronics, and soundscapes coupled with mature harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic language set Ripple Effect apart with conceptual minimalism. The percussion is actively involved throughout, while still making plenty of pure wind exposure moments and featured soloists. In this show, music ripples through the concept sonically, harmonically, texturally, dynamically, motivically, tempo-based, retrograde, and inversion.
These musical ideas lay the groundwork for a visual package that develops with vertical, horizontal, density, velocity, geometry, balance, and choreography.
This show was originally commissioned for Chino Hills HS for the fall of 2019 and was released for the 2020 season.
