“Primal” is a high-energy production built around raw instinct, power, and the tension between control and chaos. The show is designed with enough flexibility to evolve in many different conceptual directions, allowing each ensemble to shape the production into something uniquely their own. The original version explored the dynamic relationship between animals and trainers — a dramatic saga of dominance, resistance, and survival — but the emotional and visual possibilities extend far beyond that initial framework.
Driven by aggressive pacing, impactful visual moments, and intense musical momentum, “Primal” creates an atmosphere that feels both dangerous and exhilarating. The production thrives on contrast: wild versus controlled, instinct versus discipline, predator versus prey. Whether approached literally, abstractly, or symbolically, the show offers countless opportunities for creative staging, choreography, costuming, and character development.
"Primal" was originally a Scholastic World Semi Finalist at WGI Championships in 2026 performed by Fishers HS. This show was released for the 2027 indoor season and was written by John Mapes and Ian Grom.
