This production explores the emotional journey of heartbreak through the pulse of memory, rhythm, and healing. Beginning with a broken heart moment, the show follows the fractured heartbeat of someone learning how to move forward after loss. Through nostalgic flashes of joy, distorted memories, and moments of emotional unraveling, the ensemble navigates the fragile space between holding on and letting go.
Driven by cinematic sound design, reimagined popular music, and the constant presence of the heartbeat motif, the production transforms pain into momentum. What begins as a story about heartbreak ultimately becomes a story about resilience — discovering that a broken heart does not stop beating, but instead finds a new rhythm stronger than before.
"State of the Heart" was originally performed by Germantown HS in 2026. This show was released for the 2027 indoor season and was written by John Mapes and Ian Grom, show coordination by Tony Lymon.
