In Frame is a highly coordinated, big-picture general effect production centered on the idea of confinement and release. The show explores what it means to exist within a frame—both physically and mentally—and the tension that builds when that frame begins to feel restrictive. Throughout the production, performers move with precision and restraint, reinforcing the sense of structure, control, and limitation imposed by the frame.

Erik Satie's Gnossienne No. 1, a public-domain work, serves as a musical throughline of the show. By the conclusion of the production, the performers fully break free from the frame, transforming limitation into liberation and bringing the show to a powerful and visually unified resolution.

The music book is on the higher end of the demand spectrum while still staying in comfortable ranges and idiomatic fingering combinations. This is the perfect challenge for the ensemble ready to make the leap up to more challenging material. This show features a Alto sax soloist, trumpert soloist, a french horn solo and a sax quartet.

This show was written by Ian Grom and John Mapes and was originally commissioned for Chino Hills HS for the fall of 2025 and was released for the 2026 season.
